Mysuru homeowners can apply for a potential government subsidy* on residential rooftop solar through the national PM Surya Ghar portal, administered locally via BESCOM. The current published structure is about ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW plus ₹18,000 for the third kW, with an overall cap of roughly ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. It scales with system size only up to that cap — a bigger array does not earn a bigger subsidy beyond it.

Two details matter for budgeting: the subsidy is disbursed after installation and inspection, not paid upfront, so you finance the full cost first and receive the benefit later; and the slabs are revised from time to time. What you save — BESCOM tariff and payback

Mysuru homes are supplied by BESCOM and billed under KERC's domestic Schedule LT-1, which since 1 April 2025 uses a single flat energy charge of about ₹5.80 per unit (plus a fixed monthly charge), rather than rising slabs. That flat structure is simple to model: every unit of solar you self-consume during the day is worth the same ₹5.80, whatever your total usage. Because self-consumption is worth more than export (see net billing below), sizing the system to your daytime load — not just your total bill — is what protects payback.

For a well-sized system on a healthy bill, payback in Mysuru typically falls in the 4–8 yearrange, after which the electricity is effectively free for the remainder of the panels' 25-year warranted life. A potential government subsidy* shortens that further. The biggest single driver is bill size: the more grid units you currently pay ₹5.80 for, the more each solar unit is worth.

Net billing in Karnataka

Karnataka's residential settlement is net billing, not one-for-one net metering. A bidirectional meter records both the units you import from BESCOM and the surplus you export. Imports are billed at the retail ₹5.80/kWh, while any net exported surplus is credited at the lower KERC feed-in rate of about ₹3.86/kWh for domestic systems. That gap is why self-consumption is worth more than export, and why an oversized array that dumps most of its output to the grid pays back more slowly.

Mysuru-specific notes

• Climate and generation. Mysuru enjoys strong, fairly even year-round irradiance on the Deccan plateau, with a monsoon dip from roughly June to September. Annual generation per kW is broadly comparable to Bengaluru — plan around the ~110–140 units/kW/month range and expect lower output in the wet months.
