Capped at ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above — a larger system won't increase the subsidy, but it will generate more power.
System cost uses the MNRE benchmark of ₹55,000/kW; your actual quote depends on brand, structure, and installer. This is a planning estimate, not a quote.
* Government subsidies can change. Review the latest regulations on the official government portal before committing to a rooftop solar installation.
The scheme is actively funded. PIB reports ₹9,281 crore disbursed across ~57.9 lakh applications as of 2025-07 (source ). Last verified 2026-05-20.
How the subsidy is calculated
India's central rooftop-solar subsidy is tiered by system size:
- •₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW (up to ₹60,000)
- •₹18,000 for the 3rd kW
- •Capped at ₹78,000 for any system of 3 kW or more

Solar subsidy — frequently asked
How much solar subsidy can I get in India?
India's central rooftop-solar subsidy pays ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, capped at ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW or more. The amounts are set nationally and can change — verify on the official government portal before installing.
What subsidy will I get for a 3 kW solar system?
₹78,000 — the maximum. A 3 kW system reaches the subsidy cap, so it's the sweet spot for most independent homes.
Is the solar subsidy the same in every state?
The central subsidy is the same nationwide, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Some states add their own top-ups, and net-metering rules vary by electricity distribution company (DISCOM).
How is the subsidy paid?
It is transferred directly to your bank account after your system is installed, inspected, and net-metered by your DISCOM — not deducted upfront from the installer's price.
Does a bigger system get a bigger subsidy?
No. The subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 at 3 kW. A larger system costs more and generates more electricity, but the subsidy amount does not increase beyond the cap.
